New York City
There is something strikingly familiar about this city. When you take a break to New York City you get an incredible sense of deja vu, perhaps because you feel like you’ve been before through the big and small screen. Despite this the city completely takes your breath away. It’s louder, busier, weirder and more wonderful than ever could be portrayed. The iconic sights don’t fail to disappoint and Manhattan is an island you need days to explore fully.
Don’t expect to take everything in with just a few nights here, you would need multiple trips or at least a week to feel familiar here. And to feel like you had given it your full attention. There is so much to do and although it’s the city that never sleeps you eventually have to.
It’s an accessible city, waiting for all to explore. Prepare to walk, to see as much as possible, and getting lost isn’t easy in the grids of streets! If you’re not able to walk the famous yellow cabs and Uber are extremely cheap. The iconic Metro is also great value. Couples can re-enact the romance of countless movies, think Sleepless in Seattle, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and When Harry Met Sally. While families will love the Natural History Museum and the perks of Central Park.
Monkey around in one or more of Central Parks playgrounds. They’re a great way to break up the sightseeing if you’re travelling with kids.
Take the trip out to Liberty Island, Lady Liberty is striking in real life but the real gem of the trip is Ellis Island. A haunting and thought provoking museum dedicated to the city’s immigration.
Have a pit stop at Central Station, there are some superb street food stalls underneath the concourse.
Times Square selfies are a must of any trip.
Movie tours aren’t just for LA, see landmarks and locations for some iconic films and TV, whether it’s Friends, Sex and the City, Ghostbusters or Mr Popper’s Penguins!
